A red fire warning was put in place this bank holiday weekend.

Warm, dry and breezy weather has sparked multiple fires across the country.

Dublin Fire Brigade are appealing to the public - be careful with cigarettes, barbecues and leftover ashes.

The parched ground outdoors can ignite rapidly, even if it's under an inch in diameter.

Red Fire Warning: Call 999 Or 112 And Leave.

Dublin Fire Brigade is asking people to call the emergency services immediately if a fire is spotted.

Station Officer Darren O'Connor says the earlier they hear of it, the sooner it can be controlled.

"If you are out enjoying the outdoors for the weekend, the weather is extremely hot, the vegetation is extremely dry."

"If you do see a fire in open areas or the uplands, on heath, on moorlands do report it."

"The earlier we get there, the better attack we can have."

"These fires are often in areas with poor access and poor water supply, you know they're difficult to get to."

Helicopters Carry 2 Tonnes Of Water At A Time

The Air Corps have sent helicopters to two separate fires, in Galway, Sligo and Meath.

Coillte, the state forestry agency, are tackling the Meath fire too, near an explosives factory.

Mick Power from Coillte says it seems to be under control.

"I won't say we're out of the woods yet but I'd say we're pretty safe as it is."

"A lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of water [have gone in there]."

"The fire is in the heart of the plantation are we're aiming to keep it there."

"I think we're holding it and probably will hold it now at this stage."
