Concerns are being raised over the possibility of changing the standards needed to sign up for our Defence Forces.

People who are colour-blind may one day be able to enrol after being disqualified for decades.

The changes are been raised as recruitment and retention has become increasingly difficult for the army.

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Defence, Jack Chambers, says it is a desperate move.

"It seems that the Minister for Defence is now embracing a lowering of standards is examining undermining the high standards we have in our Defence Forces -- instead of addresing the serious re cruitment and retention crisis that we have," he said.
