A solidarity demonstration will take place in south Dublin today, after a church in Ballyfermot received backlash for flying a Pride flag.
Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church flew the flag last week and shared the image on Facebook with the caption "all are welcome".
Last weekend a demonstration called for its removal and within days, Dublin Diocese ordered the church to take the rainbow flag down.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Daithi Doolan says Fr Adrian Egan had the full support of the parish council to erect the Pride flag.
He says this evening's vigil is to show there's no place for homophobia in Ireland.

"We've decided to turn a negative into a positive to show Ballyfermot is open, it's inclusive, it's diverse and it's welcoming."
The demonstration, which is being organised by the Ballyfermot Anti Racism Network, will kick off at 6.30pm.
