Balbriggan is the location of the first new homes to be delivered under the government's cost rental scheme.

The 25 properties unveiled today are a mix of two, three and four bed homes.

They'll be available at rents 50% below market value, ranging from €935 and €1,150 per month.

Applications for the new homes are now open, with the properties available for people to move into in early August.

Scheme Aims To Help "Moderate Earners"

Fiona Cormican from the approved housing body, Cluid, says the homes aim to be accessible for "moderate earners".

"Basically it's people who do not currently avail of social housing supports and who do not own their own home."

"It's to meet the needs of people who cant access social housing supports."

Ms Cormican says the scheme will also help people who "simply cant afford the current rates in the private market".

The new government scheme aims to provide 390 cost rental homes this year.
