Counting of votes is underway following by-elections in two Dublin constituencies yesterday.

In Dublin Mid-West, the successful candidate will replace the Dáil seat vacated by former Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald.

With 62 out of 111 boxes opened, early tallies indicate Sinn Féin's Mark Ward ahead, following closely by former Green Party TD, now Independent, Paul Gogarty and Fine Gael's Emer Higgins.

Turnout in Dublin Mid-West could be well below 30%.

After early tallies in Dublin Fingal, the Green Party look best placed to take the seat.

Joe O'Brien appeared well ahead in his home patch in Skerries, but is picking up a solid vote across the constituency.

Labour's Duncan Smith is also doing well particularly in his home patch in Swords

The Fianna Fáil candidate Lorraine Clifford Lee and Independent Dean Mulligan also with decent tallies so far - but it looks like a Green Wave in Fingal.

The Dublin by-elections were two of four held across the country yesterday, with counting also now underway in the Cork North Central and Wexford constituencies.
