Niall Horan has jumped ship and joined a new boy band. Well, that's according to comedian John Bishop.

The One Direction star has been busy preparing for Soccer Aid's big charity match this Sunday.

Niall is among the Rest of the World team alongside Nicky Byrne, AP McCoy, Michael Sheen and Shayne Ward. He'll face off against his 1D bandmate Louis Tomlinson, and the likes of John Bishop and Paddy McGuinness.

It looks like Niall may be switching sides and forming a new ‘boy band’ with two of his opponents.

Bishop has tweeted to say they trio have formed a new boy band - 'One Lad and 2 Dads'!

Now there's a band we'd love to see perform.

Earlier this week, Niall revealed he's really enjoying the One Direction hiatus.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said:

"It's been brilliant. It actually doesn't feel like we've been off – it's been like 6 months already."

"I was talking to Louis the other day, it feels like only yesterday we were touring. It's been really good to chill out, not really have a schedule and just being able to do our own thing, play golf and go to all the sporting events that I've wanted to for the last five years."

Niall also revealed that he has been spending time in the recording studio, but said he isn't working on anything serious.

"Yeah, I've just been in the studio, nothing sneaky, nothing in particular going on," he shared.

"Writing is always something I've enjoyed, as you know, and I've written with a few of the lads I've made relationships with down the years so I've been able to call up someone, 'Do you wanna write? Yeah, cool, let's go in the studio and write'.

This weekend's Soccer Aid tournament in Old Trafford is in aid of Unicef UK.
