The 80th Golden Globes were held in LA last night and it was an exciting night for the Irish in Hollywood!

Banshees of Inisheerin led the way with 8 nominations and took home a total of 3 Golden Globes on the night. Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan unfortunately lost out in their categories but Colin Farrell scooped up the award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.

Not sure we'd describe Banshees as either of those genres (can't look at donkeys the same way again) but we couldn't be more proud of Colin Farrell for his well-deserved win.

Everyone's talking about his speech because well...the man is just so bleeding charming!

Other major talking points of the night is Jennifer Coolidge's win for best supporting actress and her hilarious speech.

The 61-year-old is finally getting the recognition she deserves for her iconic role in The White Lotus - and she let the room know about it!

Jennifer Coolidge wasn't the only White Lotus winner who had the room in stitches with their speech. The show's creator Mike White jokingly called out the actors in the room who passed up on a chance to star in his award-winning show.

And Michelle Yeoh had a gas reaction to being cut off by the 'playout' music after she accepted her Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The Golden Globes just seem like a bit of craic don't they?

The Big Winners:

  • Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Austin Butler for Elvis
  • Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Cate Blanchett for Tár
  • Best Musical or Comedy - Banshees of Inisheerin
  • Best Motion Picture - The Fabelmans
  • Best Director - Stephen Spielberg for The Fabelmans
  • Best Screenplay - Martin McDonagh for Banshees of Inisheerin
  • Best TV Drama Series - House of the Dragon
  • Best Actress in a TV Series - Zendaya for Euphoria
  • Best Actor in a TV Series - Kevin Costner for Yellowstone
  • Best Comedy or Musical TV Series - Abbott Elementary
  • Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical TV Series - Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary
  • Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical TV Series - Jeremy Allen White for The Bear
  • Best Limited TV Series - The White Lotus

There was no luck for our man Domhnall Gleeson on the night who was up for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Limited Series for The Patient, as he lost out to Paul Walter Hauser in Blackbird.

But what a night! The Golden Globes always kick off the award season so we'll be hearing a lot more about all these characters over the next few weeks.

We'll keep our fingers crossed for more Irish interest at the Oscars!
