Did he... know his mic was on?

Leaked transcripts got into the hands of people at The Guardian which caught David Walliams making some very unsavoury remarks about contestants he'd just seen performing.

Conversations between the judges are often recorded after an audition which catches their genuine reactions to the performances they'd just seen.

The leaked transcripts caught David Walliams repeatedly referring a man who'd poked fun at him a "c*nt".

And he was caught making some very sexually explicit comments about a female contestant after her audition.

"She’s like the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*ck them, but you don’t. She thinks you want to f*ck her, but you don’t."

The offensive comments were made during auditions at the London Palladium in January 2020. Spokespeople for David Walliams and Thames TV (the production company behind Britain’s Got Talent) argued the comments were part of a private conversation that were never intended to be aired.

Walliams himself released a statement saying "I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020. These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”
