Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is optimistic that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sign a contract extension with the club soon and has assured fans that they can be "pretty relaxed" about the situation.

The 31-year-old Gabon striker's current deal expires at the end of the current season and the club have been in talks with their star player since winning the FA Cup this summer.

"I can say I am even more confident than I was at the end of last season," Arteta said when asked about the situation ahead of their match against Fulham tomorrow.

"Do I think it will be done soon? I am really optimistic, yes. I think they (Arsenal fans) can be pretty relaxed."

Arteta also revealed that Alexander Lacazette is set to remain at the Emirates following conversations about his future with the Gunners.

"He is really happy here, he wants to keep improving and contributing to the team. I know how good he is and the impact he's having.

"He knows about the competition he has as well with the front players. He needs to demand himself to be the best striker at this football club, the same as the rest. He was very happy to hear that."
