Around 100 people have held a protest outside a southside garda station over fears about number of assaults.

Gardai are investigating after a teenager was attacked on Quinns Road in Shankill on Tuesday. It's understood she was followed as she walked home at around 8.30pm. It's believed she was grabbed but managed to free herself and run away.

Since December there has reportedly been at least three attacks or attempted assaults on women close to the Dart station.

A public meeting is being held this evening as locals feel there’s a lack of visible gardai in the area.

A caller to 98 FM's Dublin Talks this morning spoke of how a man was acting suspiciously near his wife at the Dart Station, on the Sunday before the attack.

Last night a group of some 100 people gathered outside the local garda station - to vent their frustration at what they believe is a lack of a police presence in the area. The Herald reports around 20 people occupied the reception area for 20 minutes.

Local resident Susan Moriarty says they need Garda reassurance 'because otherwise its going to end up being a group of vigilantes taking it into the own hands and we don't want that.'

In a statement to 98FM news the Gardai say an incident room has been set up at Shankill Garda Station to investigate. They say officers have taken a number of statements from injured parties and are continuing to liaise with them.

Meanwhile, Gardai are appealing for anyone with information about this latest attack to get in touch.
