Microsoft goes discless with the new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition

Microsoft has unveiled a new, discless Xbox One console, called the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.

It’s essentially just an Xbox One S without the disc drive, something which drives the price down slightly, and is likely to annoy GameStop executives.

The 1TB console comes with Minecraft, Forza Horizon 3 and Sea of Thieves pre-installed and includes “a special offer to get started” for Xbox Game Pass.

The One S All-Digital Edition is roughly dollars cheaper than the regular Xbox One S, and judging from the console listing on Amazon, it only works out roughly €30 cheaper than the regular version.

With the price of digital games on the Xbox store not significantly cheaper than say buying pre-owned games from a physical store, it’s unlikely that this will be a game changer. Tut with Microsoft’s xCloud streaming service and Google’s Stadia, it isn’t hard to see gaming heading to an all-digital future eventually, like music, TV, and movies have already largely done.
