The National Transport Authority says we're "years away" from introducing contactless payments on Dublin Bus.
In many cities, passengers can tap their card or phone to pay for a fare, instead of using cash or a smart card.
London has been using the technology for the last decade.
At a Dublin City Council meeting last night, the NTA said our bus service is "too old to actually manage to deal with contactless payments".
It's working on appointing a contractor to handle the rollout but warns it could take a "couple of years" to set up new IT systems.
