Shamrock Rovers new signing Sean Kavanagh joined us on this morning’s ‘Now That’s What I Call Sport’ on why he moved from championship side Fulham in London to return back home to Dublin with his three year old son Freddie high on his priorities.

Kavanagh who spent six years at the London club since his move from Belvedere FC aged just sixteen spoke of how the move to Shamrock Rovers came about.
“I was up training with Derry and it looked like I was gonna sign there when I had a call from Stephen McPhail and Stephen Bradley and they said they were interested in me.”
“What they said enticed me to the move.”
“It’s the biggest club in Ireland and I’m a Dublin boy so that helped as well.”
Rovers’ new signing was given his first taste of league action at Tallaght Stadium as they played out a 0-0 draw with Dundalk yesterday. Having played in England’s second highest division with Fulham Sean gave his thoughts on the experience as a whole running out for the first time in the SSE Airtricity League.
“You always get that tingly feeling in your stomach which is nerves but I think that’s good if you don’t have nerves I think there’s something wrong.”
“I think I got a good reception off the fans.”
“They (Rovers) were really good last night I thought, if that’s something to go on I look forward to playing there.”
The Ringsend native gave his goals for the upcoming season with Shamrock Rovers and his reasons for making the switch back to playing in Ireland which is focused mainly on spending more time with his family and his young son.
“When I’m feeling down I just give him a cuddle and he brings me back to the top of the world.”
“As I signed I only set myself some short term goals to get and stay in the Rovers team.”
“Compete in the league, compete in the cups and look forward to the season.”
