1. Gerald's Game

Based on the 1992 Stephen King novel of the same name, Gerald's Game is a psychological thrilled that's been described by some as "wonderfully gruesome".

If you're less into gore and more into mind-bending twists and scares, this is for you.

2. The Haunting of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House is a reimagining of  Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel of the same name. Don't be surprised if you binge this all in one go - this is a super scary and unpredictable series.

3. American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy's anthology series has had fans hooked for years, and for good reason.

The campy horror show features award-winning performances from Jessica Lange, Lady Gaga and Sarah Paulson.

And with every season focusing on a different story, you can jump into whatever season takes your fancy!

4. Stranger Things

When a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl.

This is equal parts fun and freaky with a stellar cast. Season four has just resumed filming, but you plenty of time to catch up on the story so far.

You might even get some costume inspiration from their own Halloween episodes ...

5. The Conjuring

Before there was Annabelle, there was The Conjuring.

When the Perron family moves into a farmhouse, they being to experience paranormal phenomena. They consult demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to help them get rid of the evil entity haunting them.

You can probably guess what happens next.

6. The Addams Family

If you need more laughs than life-threatening scares, this should do the trick.

The Addams Family stars Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd and Angelica Huston, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Morticia Addams.

7. Friday the 13th

A group of teenage camp counselors raises the ire of Jason Voorhees, a masked, homicidal maniac, in this remake of the classic slasher flick.

Starring Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker and Amanda Righetti.

8. Paranormal Activity 2

Listen, the first installment of the series will always be the best. But this follow up is a worthy watch.

The unexplained, terrifyingly real supernatural forces are back, and this time, Dan, Kristi, Ali, baby Hunter and dog Abby are part of the nightmare.

9. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

A spooky twist on the Sabrina you know and love, the teenage witch must reconcile her two sides - half witch, half mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten her family.

Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka stars as the the girl herself - and don't worry: Hilda, Zelda and Salem feature too.
