Gardaí have launched an investigation after a baby was seriously injured in a crash involving a quad and a scrambler in Dublin.

It happened at Cherry Orchard Park in Ballyfermot at around 7pm last night.

A woman in her 20s was sitting with the little boy on the stationary quad when a scrambler struck the off-road vehicle.

The infant, who is believed to be one, was taken to Crumlin Children's Hospital with serious injuries. He is currently in a stable condition.

The suspected driver of the scrambler, a man in his late teens, was taken to St James Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

The scrambler involved in the collision had been removed from the scene before Gardaí arrived.

Any witnesses or anyone with information on the location of the scrambler are being asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 6667200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
