It looks like the striker at the top of Irish boss Martin O'Neill's wish list is set to become one of the hottest properties in the January transfer window.

The Guardian is reporting that Premier League side Watford have made an initial €9.5 million bid for Scott Hogan who is also wanted by West Ham, Newcastle United and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

The Hornets offer also contains nearly €2.5 million in add-ons but their bid is expected to be matched by the Hammers who are said to have made an unofficial approach earlier this week.

Brentford value their man at closer to €18 million and are thought to be keen to cash in with just 18 months left on his current contract.

Hogan has scored 14 goals in his last 25 games with the Championship side while it's understood that the 24-year-old is only interested in a move to the Premier League, which would rule out a move to the Magpies.

O'Neill has been keeping tabs on Hogan - who has three Irish grandparents - for a while and stated last November that he was planning to speak to the Salford-born sharp-shooter.

"I'd hope to speak to the agent and speak to him. I’d follow it up so the next time you speak to me, I’ll definitely have done it.

"We definitely need someone who can score goals regularly and I think he can do that. His work in the penalty box, he can take chances, there is no question about that."
