Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been thrust into the centre of a legal row after it emerged he is the subject of an indivdual legal claim by former team doctor Eva Carneiro.

It means that Mourinho will be forced to appear at an employment tribunal if the case isn't settled out of court.

Carneiro is also suing the London club for constructive dismissal but has refused to comment through her lawyers who say she won't while legal proceedings are active.

She was dropped from matchday duties after Mourinho called his medical team "impulsive and naive" for rushing on to treat a player in August in the midst of the season opener against Swansea.

The case against Mourinho will be that he was responsible for victimisation and discrimination that led to her apparent demotion at the club.

Here is a clip of the comments the Portuguese made after the game in question

He was widely criticised for his comments but the Football Association cleared him of using discriminatory language.

Meanwhile it's believed that Blues striker Diego Costa will escape punishment over an incident involving Martin Skrtel during his side's defeat to Liverpool.

Footage appeared to show Costa kicking out at the defender before referee Mark Clattenberg stepped in.

FA rules say if something's already been spotted by match officials, players cannot face retrospective sanctions.

Costa has already served a three-match ban this season - after clashing with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista.
