Jack Grealish has revealed that he plans to return to the Republic of Ireland U21 international setup next year.

The winger was honoured at the 25th annual Three FAI International football awards on Sunday night. He won the prize for 'U21 Player Of The Year'.

The 19-year-old has not been part of Noel King's U21 Republic of Ireland squad since withdrawing from the panel last October, for now he is concentrating on his club career at Aston Villa.

“I spoke to Noel at the start of the year and I said I was going to take a year out of international football this year, and try and concentrate on my club football,” Grealish said during the live broadcast of the awards on RTÉ television.

“I’ve had a good year at Villa and then hopefully next year I’ll be back playing again for Ireland."

Born in Birmingham he is eligible to play for England, and their Under 21 manager Gareth Southgate has expressed his admiration for the Villa man.

Former Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland captain Andy Townsend believes the winger's future is with the boys in green.

Townsend is an admirer of the 19-year-old and compared him to in form Spurs striker Harry Kane, he also revealed that he told Grealish to commit his future to Ireland.

Andy Townsend was inducted into the FAI’s Hall Of Fame on Sunday, he has been speaking to 98FM’s Darren Cleary.
