The world watched on in disbelief as the Dubliner's UFC dominance was brought to a shuddering halt when he submitted to Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout, for which McGregor moved up two weights.
The duo were thrown together 11 days in advance after McGregor's original opponent Rafael dos Anjos pulled out injured.
Brave McGregor agreed to a rematch and after some very public wrangling with the UFC, the fight was made.
Now it is now time to get really excited about the clash in Las Vegas on August 20.
