Roy Keane gave it to the players with both barrels today following their disappointing performance in their last Euro 2016 warm-up game against Belarus.

The players trained this morning on the impressive pitch at the Fota Island resort where Callum O'Dowda remains present despite not making the squad.

The management team are quietly confident James McCarthy will be fit for the start of the tournament and the midfielder took part in the initial part of the session but trained alone when the more arduous work began.

The Ireland assistant manager expects Robbie Keane to be back training with the squad by mid to late next week and is confident he will be fit enough for the Euro 2016 opener versus Sweden on 13 May.

That duo were selected despite their fitness concerns but it was the players who featured at Turners Cross and made the final 23 that Roy Keane reserved his harshest criticism for.

The briefing opened with the Cork man being asked if the players who made the cut were feeling relieved this morningThere was some sympathy expressed by Roy Keane when he was asked about the final call on the three goalkeepers which saw the hugely popular David Forde axed.

Darren Randolph, Keiren Westwood and veteran Shay Given all got the nod and while Roy Keane feels sorry for the Galway man, he points to the fact that Forde had not been playing at Millwall recently
