A €5,000 donation from Irish international Seamus Coleman has helped the Mark Farren fund reach its initial target of €30,000, which will get the former Derry City player to a medical centre in Germany.

Farren's family started the fund after Mark underwent his third operation to remove a large part of a brain tumour that he was first diagnosed with six years ago.

The biopsy which followed indicated that the tumour is a grade 4, meaning it's highly aggressive and has affected the former Candystripes forward's speech and mobility.

The initial €30,000 sum would help towards Mark undergoing a treatment programme at an elite cancer centre in Germany which would be the best chance of him beating the illness or at least prolonging his life.

Fellow Donegalman Coleman and another Irish international, James McClean, joined League of Ireland fans and many others from around the country in making a contribution and helping the fund reach it's target.

However, Mark may now travel to Mexico instead which would incur extra costs so people are still being asked to donate, if you can please click here.
