Rotherham United have completed the signing of Trevor Clarke from Shamrock Rovers.

The versatile 21-year old defender has signed a three-year contract with the English League One side.

It seems, however, Clarke's tenure at Rotherham has not gotten off to the best of starts.

In a friendly with Newcastle U23, less than an hour before his signing was officially confirmed, Clarke appeared to have suffered a serious injury. Twitter users Scott Wright and 'Millers' both posted concerning updates from the game.

Clarke was attended to for some time pitchside, before being stretchered off with his leg in a brace.

Clarke made 21-appearances for Rovers this season before his departure to the Yorkshire side. Before signing for Rotherham, Clarke was just three-games shy of his century with the Hoops.

A Republic of Ireland U16, U17 and U19 international, Clarke earned a call-up to Stephen Kenny's U21 squad for the first time in September of last year.

Clarke was voted PFAI Young Player of the Year in 2017, the same year he won his second consecutive Young Player award with Rovers.
