Chelsea legend Pat Nevin feels that Romelu Lukaku has the potential to become the world's top striker, if he delivers on a regular basis.

The 24-year-old has scored 22 goals in all competitions for United this season after joining from Everton for £75million last summer.

Lukaku scored United's equaliser against Chelsea on Sunday before setting up Jesse Lingard for the winner at Old Trafford.

After the game, the Belgium international expressed his belief that he deserves a "a bit more respect" for his record this season.

"That's the situation around me," Lukaku said, having scored his first league goal for United against a side currently in the top eight.

"I just need to keep working hard. I think I have got a nice record.

"I've scored a lot this season and I just want to keep going.

"I know that I can improve, and I want to improve and really work hard. I want to win trophies.

Nevin joined Kevin Kilbane and Joe Molloy on tonight's Off the Ball to discuss Lukaku's performance against his former club.

"He just has to do it all the time, because he's capable of doing it all the time but he doesn't. We chatted about the recent Newcastle game, he played a bit better than Pogba but both of them just weren't that interested in the game.

"If you're going to be a world class player, which I always underline, Lukaku can be the best striker in the world. There's not doubt about, he's got the physique, he's a natural goalscorer and we saw that pace."
