Robbie Keane lined up as new LA Galaxy head coach

Robbie Keane's first managerial role looks set to be at one of his former clubs.

The Republic of Ireland's record goalscorer has been lined up to become the new boss at MLS side, LA Galaxy.

Keane scored 83 times in 125 MLS appearances during a five-year stint in Los Angeles, and is now set for a return to the club he left in 2016.

The 40-year old has been out of work since losing his assistant coach's job with Ireland, and assistant manager's job at Middlesbrough in a matter of weeks earlier this year.

New Ireland manager Stephen Kenny preferred instead to take Keane's former international teammates Damien Duff and Keith Andrews.

A 4-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Thursday leaves LA Galaxy bottom of the Western Conference in MLS after 16 games.

The Sun claim Keane already has a backroom team lined up for when he succeeds current Galaxy head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
