Cheltenham Day One | Tips | Racing Special Live 12.30pm

What impact will the weather have on day one of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival? Who is your each-way saver in the first race? Which Gordon Elliott runners should you look at in the last? Who’s your banker?

Questions, anticipation, mania - it’s day one of the Cheltenham Festival and we’re bringing you extensive coverage across the week here on OTB AM - live from 7.45am every morning and also a 20 minute special each day around 12.30pm - starting today, we’ll be broadcasting live from the course across our social channels with the latest on the movers in the market and the word from the ground!

If you can’t wait, here’s the verdict from this morning’s OTB AM where we heard from Johnny Ward, John Duggan and AP McCoy who gave us his banker in the Champion Hurdle - Buveur D’Air.

“[Buveur D’Air] is a very good jumper, he goes any ground, he’s won over two and a half mile at Aintree so he stays well too. Willie Mullins is a genius, but it’ll be his greatest training performance if he gets Faugheen to win a Champion Hurdle. For me it’s Buveur D’Air.”

Johnny Ward gave us some very interesting selections too - he’s hot again now on Getabird and Footpad. He’s got a 33/1 saver in the first with Debuchet and is looking at two of Gordon Elliott’s most interesting runners in the later races.

Johnny Ward’s Tips;

Mossback in the 16.50pm with Lisa O'Neill on board.

"I'd be fairly sweet on Footpad in the Arkle and De Plotting Shed in the last one for Gordon Elliott."

“Debuchet e/w at 33/1 at 1.30pm is your saver!

JD is with us throughout this week too - he’s got €500 of a charity bet, so he talked us through his betting strategy for today, where he’s focusing on some of the best each-way tips! Check it out!

"It's going to be a war of attrition over the next four days for the horses and the jockeys. For horses with heavy ground form you're looking at stamina and jumping. They go at a very fast pace here, regardless of the ground. Horses that love staying will be there or thereabouts."

John Duggan’s Tips Tuesday;

Summerville Boy - each-way
Footpad - a banker of the day
Ramses De Teilee - each-way
Jer's Girl - each-way
Rathvinden - each-way
Any Second Now - each-way

"What I do with Cheltenham each year, the way I always play it, as I bet for charity, is to take it slowly and to go each-way where you can and look for value where you can - don't bet on every race, I don't think the Champion Hurdle is worth betting on at all as I think Buveur D'Air will win it."
