The German under-21 international clobbered defender Dejan Lovren in the Reds' friendly defeat to Chelsea in America.
It means that 39-year-old former Arsenal reserve keeper Alex Manninger will now deputise for Simon Mignolet for the start of the Premier League season.
Manninger moved to Liverpool in July in an attempt to maintain his fitness but he ended up signing a short-term contract at Anfield.
