Kieran Donaghy talks basketball drama and first impressions of David Clifford

While inter-county sides get to grips with the early portion of the Allianz Football League, Kerry's Kieran Donaghy has been busy with some other exciting action with a different type of ball.

The keen basketball player has been in action with Garvey's Tralee Warriors in his native Kingdom and its approaching crunch time in the league.

The 34 year old joined Nathan on the show tonight and from his vantage point, Tralee "have the toughest run in of the Top 5 teams".

"It'd be like us sitting on top of the Premiership and having to play Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal in our last few games," he explained, pointing out that "it's adding drama to the season and that it's great for the league".

Knowing his body also helps him to combine basketball and Gaelic football. But how would young Kerry talent fare as a basketball player?

"Jesus no, but he can play football," Donaghy joked, before touching on the impression the former Minor star has made on him and the other experienced Kerry players.

"From the few bits I've seen of him when he's been inside and I've been in there, his attitude is great. It's the first thing I look at. I know he can put the ball in the net and over the bar but I wanted to see what his attitude is and I met him and talked to him outside of training for a few minutes one night and he's going to be fine. He's got the attitude and we know he's got the skill level and all that," he said.

"This guy's got the right attitude, the right mental capacity I would say. Even watching him in the Donegal game, he was through on goal at one stage and he could have forced a goal with the amount of talk that was on him before the game, but he slipped it off and Stephen O'Brien tapped it in."

With discussions around players potentially playing too many games, he also gave his take on Clifford and other players in that regard which you can listen to on the podcast player.
