Roy Keane says his playing days with Ireland represented "frustration" and if he could do one thing again it would be "play in the World Cup". Asked if he could do one thing today. Speaking in an ITV4 documentary called 'Keane and Vieira" he said: "Play at the world. It would have been nice to play. There were a lot of people disappointed particularly my family. "Mick did say to me that 'if you don't respect me how can you play for me?' and what I should have said was that I wasn't playing for him I was playing for my country. It had gone then."

On Saipan, Keane added: "I just felt we needed to change out attitude a little bit. That we at least prepare as well as the Germans, why not prepare as well as them? "I wasn't looking for perfection, I was looking for progress."

Keane also said that he did go out to hurt people in games but not injure them and has no regrets over the tackle that ended Alf-Inge Haaland's career. "Many times I went out onto the pitch to hurt players. That was my job and players went out to hurt me but I never went out to injure a player," he added. "Haaland was a good lad at shouting his mouth off."
