Cavan goalkeeping coach Gary Rogers feels it is just a matter of time before gaelic football number ones start to become more involved in outfield play.

Rogers is better known as netminder with League of Ireland champions Dundalk but had a stint with the Meath senior team as well as his role with Cavan which he has carried out for three years.

In an interview on the official GAA website, Rogers spoke about the outfield experience garnered by many intercounty stoppers while playing with their clubs, including Dublin's Stephen Cluxton, and feels it can be put to better use.

"To be honest, I do see a trend of good outfield goalkeepers playing in goals in the future because what's the point in having a man standing in there when the same rules apply to him as the rest of the players on the pitch?"

John O'Leary is one of the greatest goalkeepers that pulled on a Dublin shirt and did so for 18 years.

He was asked by 98FM Sport's Stephen Doyle whether he feels Rogers' prediction could become a reality.

Former All-Ireland winning captain’s John O’Leary and Eoin Kelly were at Croke Park to launch the 2015 Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour Series.  Each will host a tour of GAA Headquarters later this summer along with many more well-known GAA stars.
