John Martin has become Stephen O'Donnell's third new signing at Dundalk.

The winger joins the Oriel Park club after five seasons on the books of Waterford. Martin averaged a goal every three games for the Blues in the 2021 season, scoring 12 in 36 matches in all competitions.

The Kilkenny native was utilised primarily on the right of the Blues' midfield, but can operate anywhere in the final third.

“I’ve been speaking to Dave Mackey and Stephen O’Donnell over the past week and I’ve been sold on everything they’ve told me,” Martin told dundalkfc.com.

“Dundalk is a massive club with great history and they have been one of the best teams in the league over the past few years. As an opposition player, I hated coming up to Oriel Park so I’m delighted to be on the other side of it now.”

Martin joins Dundalk's other new recruits, Robbie Benson and Paul Doyle.

New head coach O'Donnell has also been boosted by the retention of a number of key players from recent years.

Goalkeeper Peter Cherrie became the latest of them on Tuesday, extending his second spell at the club into a second season.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be back,” said Cherrie, “You can see what the club is trying to build again.

"We have a management team that is made up of winners and who knows what it takes to play for this club and it looks very exciting.”

Strikers Dave McMillan and Pat Hoban have also inked new deals, as have Darragh Leahy and Daniel Kelly.
