John Giles feels Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is responsible for the Liverpool goalkeeping issue that ultimately proved detrimental on the biggest stage of all.

The Ireland and Leeds legend joined us as always on a Thursday and touched on the glaring errors made by Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius which contributed significantly to the result that saw Real Madrid win the Champions League final 3-1.

The first mistake saw him roll the ball out without thinking only for Karim Benzema to pounce. And the second saw him completely fail to deal with a speculative long-range strike from Gareth Bale.

"Great goalkeepers don't do that," he said, adding that all goalkeepers do make mistakes from time to time.

"But they don't make a mistake like the first one and very, very few of the second one that he made. The fact is that this is not the first time he's made mistakes.

"He's made mistakes ever since he came into the Liverpool team and I think it's generally been recognised by supporters, players, pundits that Karius is not a good goalkeeper. And Mignolet is not a good goalkeeper, certainly not of the requirement that a team like Liverpool needs. They're going into a Champions League final, you can't afford to have a goalkeeper that's capable of making the mistakes that he made the other night. So I would put a lot of the responsibility down to the manager in that.

"He's been there for two years and to have two goalkeepers like that - obviously can make a mistake at any time - I think it's actually irresponsible of him."
