68,000 people watched Ireland hammer Canada by 50-7 at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff in their Rugby World Cup opener.
Sean O'Brien began the rout, crossing the line on 17 minutes. The yellow card to Canada captain Jamie Cudmore gave Ireland the perfect platform to attack with one of the opposition's best players taking up a spectators role.
Ireland scored another six tries as they ran out 43 point winners in the end. Iain Henderson, Johnny Sexton, Dave Kearney, Sean Cronin, Rob Kearney and Jared Payne also crossed the whitewash.
Schmidt says changes will be needed ahead of their next game against Romania a week tomorrow:
"I think we'll make a few changes. The guys are a bit tired. The ball was in play for long periods of this game so I don't think guys will have to put too much work in."
"I think the Romanians will be a very physical side so we're going to have to be fresh and ready for them. I think new blood will allow us to do that."
