The list of retirements in the Kilkenny hurling camp continues to grow.

Legendary defender JJ Delaney has called it a day.

He retires from inter county hurling, having won 9 All Ireland winners medals.

He also claimed seven All-Stars in his 14 seasons with the Cats and won the Player of the Year award in 2003.

Delaney thanked Brian Cody and his selectors “for allowing me to play hurling at the highest level.”

He has also thanked The GPA, saying “they been a great help to my development in both my sporting and professional career.”

He also added “It's been amazing the encouragement the Kilkenny supporters have given me down through the years and for this I thank you all.”

Delaney joins the mass exodus from the Kilkenny camp.

Tommy Walsh, David Herity, Aidan Fogarty and Brian Hogan have all announced their retirements since they lifted the Liam McCarthy Cup in September.
