Jack Grealish will not be in the England squad for the friendlies with Spain and France later this month.
All of the relevant paperwork was submitted to change his allegiance from Ireland to England but FIFA have yet to grant clearance for him to play.
The Aston Villa midfielder represented the boys in green right up to U21 level at but declared his intention to play for England after a long drawn out saga of will he/won’t he.
England manager Roy Hodgson will reveal his squad to face Spain and France on Thursday, Grealish won’t be on the list but could join the squad in the build-up to the games.
The winger was given the opportunity to link up with the squad at St George's Park during last month's international break.
Tim Sherwood put a stop to that, instead advising Grealish to spend the break at his club after missing pre-season due to a hamstring injury.
Injuries meant Grealish’s could’ve won his first cap for England, Theo Walcott (calf) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ( hamstring) are out of action after being injured in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.
Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson are among the midfielders also currently sidelined.
