Ireland begin their Hockey World Cup 2018 campaign as underdogs later.

The Green Machine face Australia from 11:30am Irish time

They are the no. 1 team in the world while Ireland are ranked 10th ahead of their Pool B match.

Ireland qualified for the World Cup only twice - finishing in 12th place on both occasions in 1978 and 1990.

They qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 2016 via the Hockey World League Semi-Finals and finished 10th place at the tournament.

In the same year Ireland won bronze at the EuroHockey Championships.

Shane O'Donogue is hoping they can emulate the women who made it all the way to the World Cup final and stunned the sport by taking home the silver medal.

The midfielder and his Ireland team mate Alan Sothern join Nathan ahead of Ireland's World Cup campaign in India.
