Injured Massey misses out on Dundalk Europa League squad place

Dundalk have named their 23-man squad for their UEFA Europa League group campaign.

The Lilywhites were drawn in Group B alongside Arsenal, Rapid Vienna and Molde.

Their campaign begins against the Norwegian side on October 22 at Tallaght Stadium, as the Aviva will be preparing for the Six Nations visit of Italy two days later.

Left-back Dane Massey is the highest profile absentee from the squad list submitted to UEFA.

The 32-year old has not played since starting the FAI Cup win over Cobh Ramblers on August 30.

Massey required surgery on a torn rectus femurs tendon, and is expected to be out until November. He's targeted a return before the end of the season.

Last year's close season signings Josh Gatt and Will Patching also miss out on Filippo Giovagnoli's squad, but there is a place for Jordan Flores.

"When I arrived, Jordan was coming back from an injury and little by little he has been getting his form back,” said Giovagnoli.

“He is a good player and he has different characteristics to the midfielders I have. He has been doing really good in practice and I have made my decisions based on what has been happening on the field."
