Back in the 1983-84 season, Ian Rush set a Liverpool seasonal goal-scoring record when he netted 47 goals.

Fast forward to this season and Mo Salah is in red-hot form and sits on 41 goals in all competitions for the Reds with Premier League games and at least two Champions League fixtures remaining.

Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League semi final against Roma, Liverpool legend Ian Rush was in Dublin for the launch of his former club's fixture against SSC Napoli at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, August 4.

And he shared his thoughts on Salah - and potentially having to relinquish the seasonal record - with us: "He's been absolutely amazing and been a joy to watch. He's got better and better.

"For me, people say it's about the record and if he breaks it, good luck to him. I'd love to see him break that record in the Champions League final. I wouldn't mind. I'd be happy if he done that but at the end of the day, he's had an absolutely amazing season and hopefully he can get even better.

"The Liverpool supporters love him, he loves the supporters, the club love him and everyone loves him. And he's so humble. That's the thing about him. Hopefully he keeps himself fit and hopefully there's not five but six games left to try and break that [record] now."

Rush also recalled his experiences playing Roma in the 1984 European Cup final when Liverpool won on penalties.
