The former Tipperary hurler spoke to Joe Molloy about the Kilkenny hurlers and what he sees as their biggest problem and whether or not they can make an All-Ireland final this year.

"I can’t see Kilkenny getting there. But listen, it’s Kilkenny so they’re probably certain to make me look stupid but I can’t see it. The big issue is there forward line I think really at the moment. They’re not exactly rock solid at the back either. But you can’t write them off," he said.

"At half time I said Galway are going to destroy Kilkenny. I was looking at Cody on the sideline and only for I was from Tipp, I might even attempt to feel sorry for them at one stage.

"I thought it was gonna get really bad, and lo and behold there we are sitting in the stand with ten minutes to go and a point in the game and the Kilkenny crowd on their feet thinking they can win it. Only Kilkenny can do that.

"Richie Hogan had a huge influence in the game. Players like this don’t grow on trees and they’re very hard to replace. Richie was very influential at No 11."

When asked what the problem is with the Kilkenny hurlers this year, Tommy had this to say: "They’re not scoring enough from general play, that’s the problem. They’re not asking a lot of questions. It was only instinct, guts and character that have got them back into it and I don’t know how that is sustainable. They’re going to run out of that one day and that’s the worry if you were a Kilkenny supporter."
