Healy & Kearney Winning World Cup Fitness Battles

Cian Healy took a full part in training yesterday, as he bids to be fit for the World Cup.

The loosehead prop is recovering from neck surgery last May and there had been doubts that he would be fit in time for the tournament, which kicks off in 9 days.

He also didn’t play in any of the World Cup warm up games over the past few weeks.

But he looks set to win his fitness battle, as does Rob Kearney.

He should be fit for the first World Cup game against Canada on Saturday week.

The Leinster star had a modified training session yesterday as he recovers from a bruised knee, while Conor Murray is continuing to train away from the squad, as he recovers from concussion.

The squad are recovering, after successive losses to Wales and England in the past fortnight.

Hooker Richardt Strauss admits that they’re disappointed, but he insists they are going in the right direction:
