There's a significant semi final for Tottenham Hotspur this weekend with Manchester Unitde standing between them and a first FA Cup final since 1991.

Harry Kane's form will be crucial but he's been under scrutiny in regards to a goal he claimed - that was subsequently awarded to him - to have scored, even though it was unclear if he had actually touched the ball in from Christian Eriksen against Stoke City.

The Tottenham striker was the subject of memes and jokes but John Giles for one believes Kane when he says that he got a touch on the ball.

"He said he touched the ball, I believe he did," said John.

"I think he's an honest player and quite an innocent lad and I think the controversy and criticism has affected him to be honest. I think he's a sensitive type of lad, very honest and I think the criticism has got to him because the last two matches that he's played against Manchester City and the other day against Brighton, he didn't play well at all. He didn't look right. He wasn't moving around well in the way that you would expect. I know he scored against Brighton but he hardly kicked a ball in the match."

Meanwhile, John also welcomed the news that Jonathan Walters will continue his Ireland career during the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign as confirmed on our Keith Andrews Show.

"Jon has been a great servant for the Irish team and if he wants to continue, good luck to him as long as he continues doing his stuff," he said, adding that there is a relative dearth of options up front for Ireland.

John also had his say on the survey sent out to a select group of fans by Everton with questions including thoughts on the current management team headed by Sam Allardyce, who does not appear all that popular with the fanbase.

"I think it's taking a cowardly way out," he said of the board.

"They're the bosses. They should make up their minds whether they want to continue with [Sam] or not."
