Rafa Benitez has been sacked by Real Madrid who have replaced him with club legend Zinedine Zidane who is the 14th manager there in 12 years.
The former Liverpool manager was just 7 months into the three year contract he signed at the start of the season but was feeling the pressure at the Bernabeu almost from day one.
Fans were displeased with his team's style of play and the 4-0 home defeat against bitter rivals Barcelona did not go down well in Madrid.
Last night's 2-2 drawn game at the Mestalla against Gary Neville's Valencia, which Los Merengues led in the dying minutes, was the last straw.
They now lie in third place in the La Liga table, four points behind leaders and city rivals, Atletico Madrid.
Zidane has been promoted from his position in charge of the club's academy and has no experience in managing a team at the top level.
As a player, the former France international won La Liga and the Champions League in a five-year stint with the club.
Florentino: The board has taken a difficult decision - especially for me, to sack Rafa Benítez - a great professional + a magnificent person
