Former Leinster second row Nathan Hines has announced his retirement.

The 39-year-old Sale Sharks forward will end his playing career at the end of the season, midway through a two year deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

Hines played with Leinster for two seasons, before leaving for Clermont Auvergne in 2011.

He claimed Heineken Cup success with Leinster in 2011, scoring a try in the final win over the Northampton Saints.

Hines announced his decision via a statement this afternoon:

He will now join Scotland's coaching staff under head coach Vern Cotter.

Hines, who was capped 77-times with Scotland, worked with Cotter previously at Clermont Auvergne.
