Damien Duff will donate all of his wages to Temple Street Childrens Hospital and Heart Children Ireland. The former Republic of Ireland winger has agreed an 18-month-deal with Shamrock Rovers.

His entire salary will be given to charity as Duff says his only motivation is to return to playing regular football. The Dubliner has been plagued with injuries since leaving Fulham two years ago.

He’s set to make his Shamrock Rovers debut against Cork City in the SSE Airtricity League on Monday night at the Tallaght Stadium.

He revealed on Saturday that he doesn’t stand to benefit financially from his move to the hoops. The two-time Premier League winner will instead give his pay cheque away to two great causes.

“Every penny I get is going to charity. I don't want a penny. I thought it'd be something nice to do because I just want to play football.”

The charities in question hold a special significance for Duff. His 4-year-old soon Woody required a heart operation shortly after he was born. The 35-year-old revealed that that was a big factor in his decision.

“I've done a bit in the past with charities, including Heart Children Ireland, because of my son, and it was straightforward enough. I don't want to make a big story out of it.

“The charities are close to my heart. My son's operation took place in London, but the check-ups were here.”

“The only thing I've taken from Rovers is the loan of a car through Hyundai until I sort my situation out. Otherwise, every penny I get, whether its bonuses, incentives, appearance money or whatever - is all going to those two charities, 50-50.”
