Damien Duff looks set to join Shamrock Rovers.

Widespread reports this morning say the former Irish winger will move to Tallaght Stadium, with a deal likely to be announced in the coming days.

It’s expected he will sign a six-month deal, with a view to extending it into next season.

Duff has long indicated his desire to finish his playing days in the League of Ireland, with Rovers, St. Patrick’s Athletic, Bray Wanderers and Bohemians thought to be leading the chase to sign the Ballyboden man.

Indeed, Rovers boss Pat Fenlon had indicated recently his side were unlikely to be able to sign Duff, due to financial constraints.

But it’s thought the Hoops have secured the funding to sign the 100-capped Irish winger and he’s expected to earn around €1,000 per week.

Duff hasn’t played since suffering an ankle injury in February playing in the A-League with Melbourne City.

That injury looks set to keep him out of action until the middle of next month at least.
