DUBLIN 1-9

TYRONE 0-12

Stephen Doyle at Croke Park

A dramatic late goal from man-of-the-match Dean Rock helped Dublin avoid their third defeat in four Allianz League matches, by the skin of their teeth.

The match wasn't a great advert for the game – a slow lumbering affair in which Tyrone defended in numbers although the northerners did show a bit more adventure in the second half.

Sean Cavanagh and Dublin forward Rock traded frees early on before a Justin McMahon point from play and another Cavanagh free put some daylight between the teams.

Scores from Rock and Bernard Brogan from play would level the game by the 14th minute.

Padraig McNulty hit Tyrone’s only other point from play in the first half before a Darren McCurry free made it 5-3 to the Ulstermen but then there was a goal chance for the Dubs in the 22nd minute.

Bernard Brogan had a good point effort bounce off the post which fell to Nicky Devereux who went to shoot at goal from close range but the defender was taken down by Tyrone keeper Niall Morgan.

Rock hit the resulting free but Morgan replied with a long range place kick himself before another Rock free and one from play levelled the match with 3 minutes left in the first half.

After the restart, Emmet O’Conghaile’s point from play was outdone by another Cavanagh free and scores from Mattie Donnelly and Barry Tierney which gave the visitors a 2 point gap in the 51st minute.

Rock and sub Paul Flynn managed to level it at 9-9 ny the 56th minute.

But then Mark Bradley’s point from play and frees from McCurry and Cavanagh made the gap 3 points with just 5 minutes left on the clock.

It wasn’t until the 69th minute that Dublin scraped the draw – a ball across the goal face from Eoghan O’Gara slam dunked home by Rock.

Morgan had a late chance with a long range free to snatch the win for Tyrone but he skewed it wide.
