David de Gea will have a “good year” at Manchester United, according to fellow Red Devil and Spanish international Juan Mata.

De Gea started for Spain last night in their 1-0 win over Macedonia in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

It was his first competitive start of the season, having been left out of all of United's first four Premier League fixtures and two Champions League qualifiers ahead of a proposed transfer to Real Madrid.

That transfer fell through on deadline day, however, due to a paperwork issue.

Sergio Romero kept goal for United in those early season games, though De Gea is being tipped to reclaim the goalkeeper’s jersey by his fellow Spaniard Mata.

"De Gea is very well regarded at the club and by the coach”, said Mata.

"I believe everything will continue to be the same. The fans love him a lot.

"In the past two years David has been the best player in the team due to the saves he made and the many points those saves gave us.

“I have no doubt that this year is also going to be very good for him."

De Gea himself insists he is “enjoying football”, despite the stress of the past few weeks.

He was delighted to get back playing for Spain yesterday.

"I felt well," the Spanish stopper said. "The coach has given me confidence. Now we need to continue to work and let's see if I'm also lucky in my club.

“My future is going to be the same as it is now. I'm calm, will continue to work and improve. In conclusion, I'm enjoying football. I'm happy."
