David De Gea looks set to stay at Manchester United- for one more season at least.

The PFA Team of the Year goalkeeper has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

But reports today suggest the Spanish shot-stopper will remain in Manchester for another season- and may even sign a new deal to stay at the club long term.

Speculation has linked De Gea with taking over from Iker Casillas as Real Number One.

Recently, Casillas has insisted he wants to stay at the club- "I hope to fulfil my contract and a commitment that is signed has to be signed until the end. But I have to earn it and train myself for it, I will strive and I will fight for the position”, the Spanish keeper said.

But speculation has continued.

United signed former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes earlier in the season as back up to the Number One jersey, with many speculating that Valdes was brought in to replace the Madrid-bound De Gea.

De Gea’s girlfriend also lives in Madrid.

He has been offered a new contract at Old Trafford. However, United boss Louis van Gaal didn’t sound sure De Gea would be staying, when discussing his future last week.

“I am not the boss”, said van Gaal.

“I want him to stay. The player is the boss – he can say yes or no. You will have to ask David de Gea, not me. He has to sign. We have offered him a lot of money.”

The Dutch boss will be pleased with reports today, which seem to suggest De Gea will be between the sticks for United next season- and maybe beyond.
