Two-time All-Ireland winner Eoghan O'Gara has been ruled out of action with the Dublin footballers for the rest of 2015.

The forward ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on Sunday while playing with his club Templeogue Synge Street.

Dubs boss Jim Gavin lost Ciaran Kilkenny and Kevin O'Brien to cruciate injuries last year and will miss the talents of O'Gara in this year's All-Ireland Championship and remaining Allianz League fixtures.

"Qn a personal level this is extremely disappointing for Eoghan. His start to the 2015 season had been very positive with some excellent performances in the O’Byrne Cup and National Football League," said Gavin in a statement on the Dublin GAA website.

"Protocols have been activated to ensure that Eoghan will receive the best of medical care and the Dublin Football medical and coaching staff will actively assist in his recovery over the weeks and months ahead. We wish Eoghan a speedy recovery, and we look forward to seeing him back to full health in the near future."

Meanwhile, O'Gara's younger brother, Under 21 star Killian, also injured his ankle in the same match.

That makes him a doubt for the Leinster U21 final against Kildare on Thursday week.
