Conor McGregor’s coach wants The Notorious’ next fight to be a challenge for the lightweight title.
McGregor beat Nate Diaz in his welterweight rematch at UFC202 at the weekend.
The Dubliner is now on a collision course with UFC President Dana White about his next move.
It’s thought McGregor wants a deciding fight with Nate Diaz, but his coach, John Kavanagh, says he would rather The Notorious fought Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt:
1 - dont know whats next. decision made over the next 2 weeks i'd imagine. personally i'd like 55 title....but we'll see what happens.

There were fears after the fight that McGregor could miss a potential fight at UFC205 in New York City, after he was given a six-month medical suspension over a leg injury.
But Kavanagh has given a positive update on his fighter’s fitness:
2 - leg is fine. in theory could be ready for NY BUT nothing definite, see tweet no.1

@dylan_LFCYNWA will be 100% in 1 week.

After Saturday night’s win over Diaz, McGregor immediately raised the suggestion of a third deciding bout with the American- but insisted it would have to be at lightweight.
And Kavanagh has insisted that fight will definitely happen:
trilogy will be decided at 55. weight being a lot closer will make the finish easier to achieve. dont know when/where but will happen.

Meanwhile, Kavanagh has again raised the possibility of Croke Park hosting a UFC bout- possibly in 2017.
However he has given the warning that the fight would need to take place very late at night...
i could see a PPV in croke park in 2017 IF they can cover it and IF they get late licence as probably have to be 3am main card.
