Clermont have poured cold water on suggestions that they're interested in signing Paddy Jackson.

Reports at the weekend suggested that the Top 14 side had opened preliminary negotiations with the out-half with a view to signing him for next season.

Jackson and Stuart Olding had their Ulster and IRFU contracts revoked on Saturday after an internal review while Ulster winger Craig Gilroy has been dropped from first team consideration until the end of April.

Both Olding and Jackson were found not guilty of all charges following a nine-week trial in Belfast.

In a statement on the club's website, Clermont head coach Franck Azéma says the rumours about their interest in Jackson was "false information" and insists that they're well stocked for cover in the position.

"The Irish out-half will not come.

"There is no contact between Paddy Jackson and the club and no desire on our part to engage his services.

"I trust our workforce in this position where we do not lack resources with Camille Lopez, Patricio Fernandez, Ice Toeava and Dorian Lavernhe.

"With the constraints imposed by the Salary Cap, it is not possible to strengthen the position of outhalf, where the internal solutions are numerous."

Yesterday, Exeter denied reports that they were interested in acquiring Stuart Olding, saying the centre is "not on their radar".
